Mario was my great pop pop. He was my favorite person to be around. He called me “Doll”. Whenever I saw him he would give me a jar of change because whenever he bought something, he would save the change and give it to me. He used to hide coins in the rocks outside his house so me and my brothers would find them. My favorite part of being with him was watching the sunset every day on the deck. I really miss him and I have all of these memories, like eating plain Cheerios with syrup, the cold floor in the house, the uncomfortable blue chairs, flying kites, canoeing, the way the house smelled, and I’m afraid that one day I will forget those things. I don’t want to forget those memories, I don’t want to forget him. So I keep him in my heart and in my prayers.

I live in Cliffside Park. The Anderson ave Project has been on the drawing broads for a long time. I have mixed feeling about the project. The commercial district need a boost as it has fallen on hard times and loosing business to flashier and newer shops in nearby Edgewater. However, the location of project just happens to be in the “nicer” section of the town. The south end of town is borderline blight, that section should be revitalized first. Lots of old buildings in disrepair, the owners no longer live in town but are landlords whose only motive is to maximize income with no interest in improving anything. The mayor has been in office since early seventies I think only Castro has a longer tenure. Cronyism and favoritism run deep in this town. Lots of old houses are being torn down to make room for two family duplexes each going for 600k- 700k plus (bubble at its peak!).

Mr. Hans was a dear man in our families life. Our son Joe said it best, He told me "Pop I am so sorry to hear about Bill's dad I didn't really know Mr. Hans but I know he was a great man because he has great sons". Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love Phil and Debbie
