Obituary of Harold Millard Wiggins

Harold M. Wiggins, a resident of Bergenfield, N.J. for 59 years died after a short illness. He was 87. Harold was a man who always put his wife and family first. He was born July 14, 1923, in Cumberland, Md. His mother Rachel raised Harold and his brother William in New York City. After high school, he joined the U. S. Marine Corps. and served proudly in the South Pacific in World War II. He returned to New York after the war. On January 21, 1951, he married Anne Katharine Gercken at St. Peters Lutheran Church in New York City. Later that year he and Anne moved to Bergenfield, N.J. He worked many years for Henry M. Snyder and Co. in international sales and marketing in New York City. He was a longtime member of V.F.W. Post 6467 and the St. Johns Golden Age Club in Bergenfield. Harold enjoyed doing anything that involved spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Anne Gercken Wiggins; son Richard and his wife Mary of River Edge, N.J.; daughter Kathleen and her husband William Woodward of Oakland, N.J.; daughter Jeanne and her husband Joseph Polizzano of Glen Rock, N.J.; 8 grandchildren including Natalie Wiggins, Julianne Wiggins, Scott Wiggins, Michele Woodward, William Woodward, James Woodward, Michael Polizzano and Rachel Polizzano. He was preceded in death by his mother Rachel and brother William. The family will receive friends on Friday September 24, 2010 at the McCorry Brothers Funeral Home, 780 Anderson Avenue, Cliffside Park, N. J. from 2:00 PM to 4:00PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. There will be a prayer service at the funeral home on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at 10 AM. The funeral will follow at the Ferncliff Cemetery, Ardsley, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations (indicate in memory of Harold Wiggins) may be made to the U. S. Marine Corps. Toys for Tots Foundation, 18251 Quantico Gateway Dr., Triangle, VA. 22172.
