SCARPATI - Dominick Gabriel born January 25, 1919 in North Bergen, NJ, died June 16, 2014 in Orange Park, Florida. He was the husband of the late Antonietta Carpentiere. Beloved brother of Giovanna (Jenny) Severino, Teresa Amalfitano, Rafaella (Rae) DeCristoforo, Rose Gioia, Maria Scarpati, Anna Lipari, Louise Scarpati, and Laura Guida, his twin (all previously deceased). He is survived by his loving son Barry, daughter-in-law-Patsy, 21 nieces and nephews, 55 great nieces and nephews, and 72 great-great nieces and nephews, along with their spouses and countless friends. Mr. Scarpati joined the US Merchant Marines after high school and then joined the United States Army and served 31 years, having attained the rank Chief Warrant Officer 4. He served in active duty in the Pafific theater during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War until his retirement from military service. He then spent another 31 years as a civil servant, as an inspector of Army hospitals and medical facilities. Where he got the nickname as "The Godfather". He retired in 1997 at the age of 78. He was highly decorated and well respected in his field. Dominick was also a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus in St. Catherines Church, Orange Park, FL. He enjoyed his yearly trips to Hawaii where he spent many holidays with family and also his trips back to Italy to visit family. As a generous benefactor to the St. Jude Foundation and to all members of his family, Dominick Scarpati touched the hearts of all whom he met. He is much loved and will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Mr Scarpati's memory would be greatly appreciated. Funeral from McCorry Brothers Funeral Home, 780 Anderson Avenue, Cliffside Park, NJ, on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at 10:15 AM. Funeral Mass to be celebrated at Madonna Church (in The Cemetery), Fort Lee, at 11:00 AM. Entombment to follow at Madonna Mausoleum, Fort Lee, NJ. Visiting hours on Tuesday, from 7-9 PM.
