Obituary of Diana Chi Mei Maher

Diana Maher (nee Chi Mei Ku), age 98, passed away peacefully on Dec. 31, 2022.  She was a long-time resident of Cliffside Park, and lately, of Edgewater, NJ, and a long-time parishioner of Church of the Epiphany, Cliffside Park.

She was born in SungKiang, KiangSu province, China, and moved to Tokyo, Japan, in the 1950s, after her marriage to Michael Maher.  They emigrated to the United States in 1968, and lived in Manhattan, before moving to Cliffside Park.  Diana enjoyed dressmaking, and while in Japan, completed a dressmaking course, that culminated in modeling her own creations.  She also enjoyed Ikebana, the art of Japanese flower arrangement, and participated in Ikebana shows in Japan.  While in Japan, Diana and Michael enjoyed lawn bowls at the Yokohama Country & Athletic Club and won many competitions during that time.   She loved her dogs, Tina, Winnie, and Bibsy, and her cat Didi.

After her retirement from Marubeni America Corp. in New York City, Diana volunteered her time at various organizations, including Holy Name Hospital, and assisting in Introduction to Computer courses for seniors.  She is survived by nephews, nieces, cousins, and their children.  She will be missed by them, and her dear friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 4, 2023, from 11 AM to 1 PM at McCorry Brothers Funeral Home, 780 Anderson Ave., Cliffside Park with a prayer service at 1 PM. Entombment to follow at Madonna Mausoleum, 2070 Hoefleys Ln, Fort Lee, NJ 07024.
