Obituary of Tula E Brown

     Tula Brown (nee Galvez) of Edgewater NJ, age 93, passed away on July 9, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter F. Brown. Tula is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Perelli (Robert) of Fort Lee, NJ, two sons, Kit (wife Lynn) of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Kurt (wife Karen) of Wanaque, NJ, four grandsons and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Juanita Krause of Warwick NY.

     Tula was well known in her former community in Sullivan Co., NY where she diligently volunteered as a senior advocate. She was appointed to the NY state Advisory Board and served as Director of the county SHIP program; a program she established in 1991 when she and her husband retired to the Catskills. Before retiring, they both crusaded successfully for the establishment of fire-retardant clothing for utility workers. Tula also volunteered with Legal Aid, mediation, CASA and court-appointed child support. Her big accomplishment was the establishment of a prescription card for all residents of Sullivan County.

     She was also instrumental in saving more than one million dollars for seniors by her knowledge of Medicare, insurance, and negotiation. She was also a coordinator of income tax assistance in both NJ and NY.

     As per her request there will be no wake and formal burial. Instead, Tula has decided on cremation and a Catholic funeral mass to be held at Holy Rosary Church, 356 Undercliff Ave., Edgewater, NJ at 10:00 am on Friday, July 14th, 2023.
