Obituary of Douglas T McCartney
Douglas T. McCartney, of Ridgefield and Fairview, passed away peacefully on July 12 at the age of 74. He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Josephine “Joan” Daniel; father, Robert “Buddy” McCartney; stepfather John Daniel; and older brother Robert “Bobby” McCartney. He is survived by his brother Jeffrey McCartney (Robert Leap) of Leonia, his cherished niece, Emily McCartney-Leap; numerous cousins; and many friends. He is also survived by lifelong and devoted friends John and Cheryl Saputo, their daughter, Dara Holland (Douglas’ beloved “DaDa”), son “Jon-Jon,” and their families. A veteran of the US Navy, Douglas was proud of his service on the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Pacific. Following the Navy, Douglas spent his entire career as a bus operator for Public Service (NJ Transit), where he served thousands of customers across New Jersey for three decades. A lifelong avid Yankees fan and sports enthusiast, he enjoyed his many trips to Las Vegas. Douglas will be remembered by his family and many friends for his big heart, great kindness, and generosity.
Family will receive friends on Friday, July 14 from 4 – 8 PM at McCorry Brothers Funeral Home in Cliffside Park. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, July 15 at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church in Fairview, followed by interment at Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee.
