Obituary of Linda Marie Metaxas
Linda Metaxas – Celebration of Life (Obituary)
Linda Marie Metaxas (nee Favorito), age 75, passed away peacefully in Paramus, NJ on June 12, 2024. Beloved mother, sister, grammy and wife, Linda was a woman of tremendous strength, kindness, generosity, love, compassion, selflessness, and more than anything else, the most wonderful mother in the world.
Linda was born to Marie and Anthony Favorito on February 17, 1949. She grew up in Fairview, NJ amongst her beloved “5th Street crew.” She treasured her successful academic career in Cliffside Park and Jersey City State College. She was married to Gerasimos Metaxas in 1974 and settled back in Fairview where they raised their two children, Sofia and Jimmy.
Linda’s greatest pride and joys have always been her children and her grandchildren. The largest compliment you could bestow on her was to call her a mom. Mothering to her came naturally and that is what drew so many people to her. Her eyes lit up when her grandchildren walked in the room, and she cherished every moment spent together as a family. To have been loved by her is a privilege; her love taught everyone how to be a better and more loving person.
Linda was a highly respected and beloved teacher, spanning her 35+ year career within the Hoboken and Paterson school districts. Her students came to love her for her firm yet fair approach and her unwavering ability to step in and “mother” them, which was sometimes more valuable than any curriculum lesson. Her fellow teachers adored her, and she often found herself surrounded by the young teachers who respected her tenure but who also loved her philosophical and irreverent views on life. Witty, sarcastic, and incredibly funny, she never shied away from an opportunity to chat and laugh. Linda was an amazing person to sit and talk with about any topic – she loved to connect with others and that was her great mark left on this world.
Linda was a woman of immense strength – spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental. While her body betrayed her later in life, her mind and spirit could not be broken. Linda was a voracious reader and never met a book club she did not like. She loved books and literature and learning until her last day.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Marie Favorito, her husband, Gerasimos Metaxas and her brother, Joseph Favorito. She is survived by her children, Sofia Waldow and Jimmy Metaxas, their spouses, Guenther Waldow Jr. and Lauren Metaxas, her grandchildren, Cameron Waldow, Ava Waldow, and Eden Metaxas, her brother, Anthony Favorito, her nephew, Michael Favorito, her niece, Alisha Capicchioni, their spouses Jessica Favorito and Rich Capicchioni, and their children.
Linda touched the hearts and souls of everyone she met and loved. She will be eternally missed, but we are at peace knowing that she is at peace. She left the world in a better place than how she found it. Her legacy is her love.
