I met Anthony this March when I signed him up for the University's Recreation Center.
Although the time I knew him was brief, when we talked the conversation was upbeat and optimistic. It was a privilege to know him.
My heart and prayers are with you all.

I knew Anthony from the MFA program at Fairfield University. Even though we only had a week, he left quite an impression on me: his deadpanned delivery of jokes; his genuine interest in learning more about the newbies; and his kindness.
I am so, so sorry for your loss, but I hope in time you and your family will heal. We will light a candle for him at this coming July residency.

When I think of Anthony I first see that grin, and think of the laughter that will follow. But more than that is the warm and softness that I felt from him. Anthony's humor always came second to his friendly, gentle nature. I wish there had been more time to get to know him. I wanted to hear some of his stories - maybe someday...I always felt he had a unique spark to share with the world. He will be profoundly missed. I am so sorry for his friends and family, and wish them gentle healing and warm memories.

Sincere and loving condolences to Anthony's beloved family and friends. I worked with Anthony in his first writing workshop in the MFA program. He had such an original vision and a uniquely creative mind, and was an emerging writer who pushed boundaries both in content and in skill. In class he was a synthesizer of thought, an outspoken supporter of others, and once we got used to his dark and biting humor, he always had us laughing. Anthony winced when I said "frontumaglia," speaking about the origins of creativity, but was kind enough to teach me, with a kind smile of authority (and, always considerate, in private), how to pronounce it properly. It wasn't only the correct pronunciation that mattered, but the understanding of how language and culture shape thinking and creativity. I am proud to have been taught proper Italian pronunciation by a master of words. We were united in our pride of heritage, and I admired his devotion to his roots and the acknowledgment of how critical family, family history and culture are in our art. Please know that he will be remembered among us, and that he made a difference to me both as a teacher and a writer. I am deeply saddened by this loss. With prayers and great sympathy.

I feel privileged to have been able to spend time with Anthony at Enders Island. Last winter, Anthony and I dove into the deep end of the pool with Baron and his Generative Poetry Workshop. Neither of us were poets and we were surrounded by truly exceptional ones. I floundered, but Anthony held his own with his humorous haikus and his off-the-cuff remarks that had us all laughing. It was his confidence that helped me find my own footing in a place I didn't feel I belonged, and I am grateful that he let me lean on him. He was a bright light both in class and out, and I don't recall ever seeing him without that beautiful smile on his face. I miss him already, but I suspect I'll feel that loss more profoundly when I step back on Ender's Island again. My deepest sympathy to his dear family and friends: this is a great loss indeed.

I am shocked. Anthony was one of the funniest, most likable students at Fairfield. He never failed to make us all laugh with his particular form of dry humor. I am so very sorry for your loss, and pray that he did not suffer.
God Bless you Anthony!

Garrett

At the Fairfield MFA winter residency this past December, Anthony told me how much he loved the little seaside chapel with all the prayers and offerings people had left. His writing was like a prayer right from his heart. May God's love and peace enfold you at this time of sad transition.
