I have so many wonderful memories of Gram (or “Gma-Funk” as many of us grandkids so fondly called her). I still can’t believe that she’s gone and I’m even more heartbroken that I haven’t been able to say goodbye to her properly. I can still remember the taste of her turkey soup — it was my favorite thing to eat (and I still can’t believe she used Veg-all). I remember how excited Valerie and I were as kids whenever we stayed over Grandma and Grandpa’s house because that meant we were going to “fruit up!” I remember the entire family cramming into the living room during Christmas (the presents took up half the room). I remember the way my grandparents used to bicker and end most of the arguments by bursting into laughter (they TRULY loved each other). I remember her stories — her father spoke French and she regretted not learning herself. I always loved hearing how my grandfather tried so hard to date her that he even got his mother involved (haha). I remember her standing on the porch of 38 Hilliard watching me walk down to Gus’ convenient store to pick up a gallon of milk and some bread — and how excited I was when she gave me a dime or a nickel when I got back. I remember her driving — and the curbs :). I remember all the trips to Vermont and how much fun we all had sleigh riding down that huge hill in the front of the house. I remember all the games of 31, Chicken Foot — but mannnn, did she cheat when we played Scattegories! I remember her saying, “It’s about time! Congratulations!” when Mark [finally] proposed and how she wrote “Glad it lasted” in our first anniversary card she gave us hahaha! I remember how excited she was when she found out I was pregnant and I will always treasure the moment when she met Everly for the first time (I made sure to take about a million pictures so I would NEVER forget, and I won’t let Everly either). I remember how much she loved Roxy — she would always say, “She’s such a good dog.” I remember her being there for Everly’s first steps (wow-wow-wow!) and how Everly so fondly called her Grandmamamamama. I remember the last time I FaceTimed with her and she told me how proud she was of me and how Mark and I make such beautiful children — I wish she would have gotten to meet Everett, his smile would make her heart melt I just know it. Honestly, I can go on and on about all the memories I have of Gram, but truth be told, it would take forever to list everything. I will never forget her, I will always miss her, I will always remember how much we loved each other and I will always know how blessed I am to have had such wonderful grandparents. I love you a bushel and a peck, Gram (p.s. always thought you made up all those crazy lyrics, haha). Rest easy, give Grandpa a big kiss from me, and say “hello” to everyone in heaven.
Love,
Heather (and family, too)
