Obituary of Manny Scarangella
Manny Scarangella, 82, of Orlando, Fl and Bogota, NJ entered into eternal rest on October 2, 2023. Manny moved to Florida from NJ. Born in his home in the Bronx. It was in the Bronx where he met the love of his life Susan and married soon thereafter. After a few years together they moved to Fairview, NJ and later to Bogota. It was in NJ where he and wife Susan (Burns) raised their two children. They recently celebrated their 61st anniversary of marriage. Susan was everything to him. His love for her was never hidden and he cherished every minute with her.
He proudly served his country as an Army Reservist. He worked for many years as the General Manager at Swisscraft Embroidery and later Tone Embroidery in Fairview, NJ. He was extremely involved in Bogota for many years supporting the local programs his children participated in. Manny saw the need for a more formal baseball and softball program, which led to his idea and creation of the Bogota Baseball Organization (BBO) in the early 1980’s. His impact on the township youth was unmeasured. He spearheaded the creation of girls softball, which led to his inclusion in the UGALS organization. His involvement also led to him being an active member on the Bogota Recreation Board. It was there where he was an advocate for the youth of Bogota as it pertained to all programs and events for them. He loved to travel with his family and to create memories for them to cherish. He loved the annual trips to Hershey, PA and Walt Disney World the most. The happiest times he had was with his family. He would sit and play with his grandkids, creatively make-up stories for them, and laugh uncontrollably with them. He never missed any event for them as he would sit proudly on the sidelines or in the stands at lacrosse, soccer, baseball, softball, basketball games, wrestling matches, and twirling competitions. He was the proudest one at every game, school event, or anything else his children and grandchildren did and supported them in every way possible. He was the one who everyone would go to for guidance and support when needed. His humor, candor, and compassion for those around him is why he became so loved by all. Still known as coach by so many he is affectionately called “Gramps” by his 5 grandchildren. He was the true essence of the patriarch of the family and will be missed tremendously.
Manny is survived by his wife Susan Scarangella, his daughter Gina and husband Luis Villafuerte, his son Manny Jr. and wife Karen, and his grandchildren Adam, Alicia, Jeffrey, Jaclyn, Dominick, his great-grandson Adam II, cherished brother of Abraham, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Cesare and Lena as well as his siblings Jennie, Gloria, Anthony, Frances, and Esther.
The family will receive guests on Sunday October 8th at McCorry Brothers Funeral Home in Cliffside Park from 2:30-5:30pm for a service to celebrate his life. Entombment will be at Queen of Angels Catholic Cemetery following a small intimate final service in Winter Park, Fl.
