Dearest Jake,
My earliest memory of you is laughing hysterically at my subpar stuffed animal show for you in your crib. You were my captive audience. Your laugh, such a deep belly giggle, full of delight and joy is how I will always remember and cherish you. No matter where we happen to be, anytime we were together you brought such joy to me. I loved the silly banter that we found hysterically funny. Laughing loudly, I'm sure super obnoxious to those around but we were completely in the moment and oblivious. Ella and Alex were lucky to have a master-level "fort constructor" and you built them their dream forts to hunker down in. You have touched the hearts of so many people leaving me in awe of you. I hear your laugh and will carry your love for others in my heart.

When I think of Jake I think mostly of his laugh. Jake had a big, full-bodied laugh. And how he loved to laugh with people! When Jake listened to or told a story you couldn't help but laugh along with him. He had the knack of taking every day, and often frustrating events, and turning them around so that you ended up holding your belly as you laughed along with him. I remember dinners, birthday parties, BBQ's, concerts and baseball games with Jake. It was always a happy event which we were lucky to share with Jake and loved ones.
I love this picture of Jake at my daughter, Kim's birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. He was so little and so completely in the moment with whatever this ride was he was on! He was just being so Jake!
One time that I do remember Jake being serious was when he was the ring bear at my second wedding. He was so cute as he held the pillow with the rings and waited for his cue to present them. He ended up doing a very good job!
I will love and remember you always Jake.

Jake the Yankee, met me, the AC casino host, back in those days. Once we found that we were both lifelong Chiefs guys, well, he was the HERCULEAN fan and I a mere mortal fan, the kinship was cemented. We both excelled at pulling off hookups at our respective venues. Referrals were flung at each other, and he reveled at Rising to any occasion presented. We once traded him on a cruise for a signed Jeter ball and maybe some worn Yankees shirt or such. He loved to work a deal! He taught me much about loyalty and friendship, that smilin wise fellow. I learned that HE was the best Host I've ever met, bar none. A LIFE Host. Yep, friends of Jake's were hooked up at all times. Thanks Legend

Jake I still cannot believe this is real. I miss you so much. You are my best friend, my adopted brother. I will cherish the memories we made. The late night FaceTime calls, our dance parties, our fancy dinners, people watching at the Edison, our elevator sitcom, and your infectious laugh are moments I wish I could relive forever. We understood each other’s dry, dark humor. You were never too busy for your family and friends. The absolute best son to your mother. An amazing uncle to Julian and New York son to my mom. Your soul was undeniably one of the kindest to ever walk this earth. You are missed by so many and I know your memory will live on through all the people’s lives you touched.
You will always be with me, but what I would give to grow old together like we planned.

Jake,
We were fortunate enough to not only have you as a friend, but to be able to call you family is truly a blessing. Before you were even born, you made an impact on my life. I remember how excited we were to learn we were going to have our first cousin. I still remember going to that building on Bailey Avenue and helping put that terrible wallpaper on your walls with the animals. The love that we felt and the excitement we shared along with your parents, John, and Cathy. You were loved even before you entered this world on September 25, 1979.
We were lucky enough to watch you grow from that cute little boy to the amazing man you are today. You have a smile that could brighten the room and a laugh that is contagious. Though you had your fair share of hardships and achievements, you managed to make the most out of every situation. You lived your life to the fullest. Whether it was travelling to see friends, or simply just relaxing with family. He cherished his family and friends deeply.
Jake, we have so many sweet, funny memories of our times together including the time when we posted Aunt Pegs picture on the wall at Perkins with her age, along with all the other pics drawn by 5-, 6-, 7- and 8-year-olds. Only to go back a few weeks later to see if it was still on the wall. Or the time we met Annie for dinner, and she told us we could use structure in our family. The time you and Rob were sitting on the couch discussing your favorite heart shaped valentines candy sayings. Your 10-mile hike when it was only to my neighbor’s driveway. All those times you would upgrade my seats at Yankee Stadium when I would show up weekly with my friends when we didn’t have jobs.
As much as I can go on and on about my memories of Jake, the one that puts a smile on my face and warms my heart are the times he spent with our son, Devin. Just having you show up to spend some time with him meant the world to Devin. He would count down the days until he saw you again and his face would light up when he was around you. I hope you know how much it meant to him that you would watch him play hockey, throw the football and baseballs with him, take him bowling and just hanging out on the boat, laughing about how you couldn’t stand on our dock. He even upgraded your cousin’s title to Uncle Jake. You didn’t have any kids of your own, but you had many that loved you.
Jake, your light now shines within each of us, in the memories and bonds we shared. Let us honor his life, his spirit, and his memory, by carrying on his values and love, embracing the example he set forth and becoming the best versions of ourselves that we can be.
Jake, you are a gift to all who know you. You make everyone and everything around you better.
Thank you for being my cousin, but more so for being the person you are.
We love you endlessly.

I remember the night the Yankees won the 2009 series. You walked out on the Hard Rock Cafe patio drenched in champagne like where’s the closest liquor store??!!! With a dolly cart. You said I gotta get more cases of champagne because no one drank any, the walls are covered in it and so am I!!!! We had many of great times on East 161 and off. You were always an amazing, jolly, kind friend at work and off duty. You had the biggest heart of gold and an infectious smile. You deserve nothing but the warmest welcome home and proud to call you my very own Yankee MVP angel. Until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of his hands. Keep an eye out for me will ya? And well share a hard rock hurricane when that day comes :)
